The beautiful Himachal State is famous for a number of hill stations, snow-capped mountain ranges, deep and flower-filled valleys and different adventure spots. Among all the attractions, Rohtang Pass – the most dangerous passes in the world and of course a paradise for adventure sport lovers, is one of them – counted as the high mountain pass on Eastern Pir Panjal Range of Himalayas around 50 km from Manali. Connecting Kullu Valley with Lahaul & Spiti Valleys, Rohtang Pass is a must-see destination for those who dare to be the part of nerve choking sports and tracks to cross the pass. The beautiful pass is also connecting a part of National Highway 21 – transverses Rohtang Pass. The adventurous pass lies on the watershed between the Chenab and Beas basins.
The wonderful pass remains open from May to November. December to February are the most risky months as the entire region witness temperature level in minus and powdery snow all round in falling position. It is not particularly high or difficult to cross on foot by Himalayan standards, but it has a well-merited standing for being dangerous because of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards.
The route that passes from Rohtang Pass is important in terms of country safety and security as Indian Military crosses the highway to reach rough terrains and border areas. However, Rohang Tunnel is in full swing that was started in the year of 2010 to create a much safer and faster year around link to Keylong, Lahaul & Spiti and Leh & Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir. This tunnel cover the total distance of 8.5 km.
