Hadimba Temple – Temple of Goddess Hidima – Wife of Bhima from Epic Mahabharata

Hidimba Temple or Hidimba Devi Temple is one of the oldest and sacred temples in Himachal Pradesh in Manali – a beautiful hill station of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The wonderful and ancient cave temple is dedicated to Hidimbi Devi – Sister of Hidimba – considered as wife of Bhima in the Indian Epic Mahabharata. Surrounded by a cedar forest at the foot of Himalayas, the beautiful sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground that was worshiped as an image of the deity. The beautiful temple structure was built in the year of 1553.

Hidimba Temple is also known as Dhoongri Temple inside the Dhoongri Forest range. Architecture of the temple has four tiered pagodas shaped roof and its doorway that are engraved with legendry figures and symbols.

A grand festival is also organized here for three days in the month of May that attracts devotees from across the state, country and even worldwide. Don’t miss to see a colorful folk dance performance during the festival.

The beautiful temple of Hidimba Devi is located at the distance of 2.5 km from Manali that is open all days of the week from 8 AM in the morning to 6 PM in the evening.
